X-Files 6.10 "Tithonus"

"That gun ain't mine, Red."

Did you see Scully go Sipowicz on that guy? I mean, she smacked him!
Not hard or anything, but it was still cool. I thought this episode was
really cool, and it played on some old themes. The best part was Scully got to
see what it feels like to be Mulder: She got shot by her partner
(Anazazi) and she got to ditch her partner......(85% of the past five seasons of
episodes.)

Vince Gilligan, again, is my favorite X-scribe, in the abscence of Darin
Morgan (where for art thou?). Loved the mail girl getting stalked by
death. As a former mail girl, I felt her pain when her cart got stuck in
the elevator--it happens. But I didn't have to deliver mail in a skirt,
which is good. Loved the scary opening, and loved how gross it was.
I've been waiting, X-Files. Once again mulder and Scully are bored out of
their minds as they perforn LEGITIMATE IMPORTANT tasks that FBI agents
actually do, although, background checks probably IS the lamest detail to
pull for all I know. Fun to see Mulder and Scully sharing the same kind
of camerarderie we've all shared with co-workers when you hate your job.
Check out Scully's babalicious photo on her file, what's up with that?
Scully's awfully bold for someone who should be working in Salt Lake
City (um...whatever happend to THAT movie plot point?) I mean, what, she and
Mulder are going to be partners forever? even doing background checks?
Loved kersch's trying to divide and conquer, and loved that "you once had
a promising career" stuff he tries to lay on her--playing to all her
daddy-pleasing instincts. Loved how scully tried to reassure mulder, as
he childishly fretted, that this was a one time thing. Love it when Scully
has to be seperated from mulder's genius and deal with mere mortals.
Ritter is just so lame. scully is just so cool. when ritter says he
wants to get this guy and Scully says she's looking for the TRUTH, it reminded
me of one of the all time BEST SCULLY lines ever, when in "Squeeze" (1st
season), one of Scully's academy pals is upset when she and Mulder
interfere in his investigation. "Who's side are you on?" He sneers, and
Scully replies cooly (how else) "The victim's." Scully rules.

Loved Scully's irritation at Mulder's ability to follow the case step by
step. Note to agent ritter--don't leave your passenger door unlocked
when you are on stakeout in New York City. scully isn't scared (that light in
the dark window was hella scary), but scully goes up and confronts the
guy,> goes for a ride. this is a less-whimsical Clyde Bruckman, really (My
all-time favorite, if you held a gun to my head and made me choose....but
you wouldn't do that....Clyde knew the when and the how, this guy only
knows when. ANd he just takes the picture. It's actually sort of like
an evil "Early edition," You know, Kyle Chandler gets the paper and just
profits on the the tragedy instead of trying to change it. scully can't
stand by, she's a HEALER, a PROTECTOR by position and disposition, and
she knocks some manners into that guy, loved it.

Loved surly scully's "I apologize" to her scummy partner, and how she
looses whatever professional respect she may have had for him when he
mouths off about making the arrest, the evidence be damned. He tries to
threaten her and it SO doesn't work. Scully just says "don't call me
Dana, chump!' Love it. Loved how cool she was as she hung out on the
photograper's stoop waiting for him to come home. Her intense curiosity
is so much fun to watch: this is a woman, who, like this man (?) is
comfortable around death, I mean, she does autopsies, she's a
pathologist. But her clinical nature can't be mistaken for this man's goulish
coldness. Scully's compassionate, and studies the dead as a means to avenge them.
She's not content to merely deal with the dead, choosing the FBI ( as
opposed to becoming a coroner) where she might deal with the living as
well. She's also just recently faced death, and lost her Father and
Sister, and Gillian plays in all, doing that not-quite-but-totally-crying
thing she does so beautifully (Yeah, Golden Globes, Felicity my @$$).

Loved how rattled she was, how scared, you really felt this getting to her, and
how she believed but wouldn't admit it. Geoffrey Lewis was also great,
somehow making me feel compassion for this soulless ghoul.
Loved our beloved scully, sure that one could never run out of things to
learn, to experience, to love. WHen he cynically asked her if she
thought love lasted forever, the look she gave was intriguing. Hope? It was
rather inscrutable, but that was my take. Her insistance that she
wasn't going to die, the panic, the pain. Now, recall, Clyde Bruckman told her
she wasn't going to die, and it looks like he may have been right, as she
cheats death once more. Loved her GRIZZLY death, all bloody and icky.
Compare and contrast, i was a lot more worried for Scully than I was for
Skinner last week. Dana gets to visit another hosptial, Momma Scully got
ANOTHER call from the bureau--your daughter's in the hospital. All in
all, a great episode, and liked how uneasy Scully was--did he pass on his
immortality to her, is that how she's going to fulfill Bruckman's
prophecy? Does this fall in with the "scully's chosen my God for a greater
purpose" theory of "Revelations" AM i just makin' stuff up?? :D Anyway, re-run
next week, (Superbowl sunday, go Broncos, shoot down those dirty birds)
and then, apparantly, they are going to go and TELL US EVERYTHING.

Yeah, right, and the Star Wars prequel is gonna come out this year: we'll see!
Have a great two weeks!!! :D Christine>

X-Files 6.9 "S.R. 819"

Hey everybody. Sorry I'm a day late, but i am not a dollar short, which
is the important thing. I am pleased to report that I actually successfully
fought a parking ticket! You can fight city hall, I have the form letter
to prove it. I can't believe the Atlanta Falcons are going to the Super
Bowl! Amazing. the Vikings really let it get away from them, and I
can't help but wonder if Randall Cunningham has another great year in him.
We'll see.

Tonight was OK, but I never felt any sense of jeopardy. DUh, Skinner is
not going to die, and having the episode start with that was such a
hard-core tease that that made it even more obvious to me that they were
going to get out of it--This is the same Skinner who, as a teenage
soldier in Viet Nam, hovered above his "dead body" for hours ("One Breath" 2nd
season). So, the guy can come back from the dead, even without Krycek.
And i knew it was Krycek early on too, and if I CAN tell it's Krycek, why
couldn't Mulder and Scully? But i liked that it was a (gasp) serious
episode, and that we were back on the conspiracy track. Nice to see
Senator Mathison, he goes back to early early 1st season. Ya know, if
the republican's want to know who's talking to Larry Flynt, mathison strikes
me as a big leak.

Mulder's at the office at 10:21 thowing pencil's into his ceiling.
Scully may not date, but at least SHE GOES HOME. Love when Scully is
super-doctor scientist woman. Loved Skinner's embarrasment when Mulder
asked if he woke up alone. Loved Scully recognizing the famous
physicist. Loved mulder' getting into mathison's face and loving it. mulder was
worried about Skinner, but happy to be back on the trail. scully figures
it all out, with the help of Dr. Plant--loved her walking into the room
and ordering everyone around. She saved an ex-boyfriend that way (sort
of) in 1st season's "lazarus" and Mulder in 2nd season's "End game." She
storms in, I'm not only an FBI agent, I'm also a doctor, and i'm better
than all of you, so do as I say. ANd even when it kind of ticks em' off,
they always do as she says. Loved Dr. Plant backing her up, clearly
smitten with her brillint brain and the beautiful face that surrounds it.

He just seemed proud to be there with her. Loved her comforting strong
ways with skinner in the hall, I'll take care of you baby doll. hey,
Skinner's secretary isn't the same one that slept with fake Mulder in one
of several episodes that didn't actually happen. Loved emotional Scully,
her voice breaking as she tells Mulder of Skinner's dire straights. And
when Skinner told Scully he was "in her hands"......he loves her. he had
hoped she would take that more literally than she did. Sad that after
that deathbed confession, he was unable to confide in Mulder and Scully...is
he protecting them??? I hate Krycek. I'm done with the little weasel, I
want Scully to find out he helped kill her sister, and for her to blow
his brains out. See ya ratboy! So, ehhh. It was alright. Hope you all
have great weeks.

Next week, Scully gets a new partner---Mulder's last new
partner was Ratboy, so hopefully this guy will just be a regular
joe-agent. You know, Scully has trouble when she has to deal with other agents,
they're never very smart. Mulder's an insensitve jerk, but he's smart.
My review will be late, as i will be taping X-Files and watching The Golden
Globes with friends--I'm an awards show junkie. I watched the American
music awards, and boy, if you are over the age of...Oh, I don't know, 18?
And don't want to feel totally unhip and old? DON"T WATCH THE AMERICAN
MUSIC AWARDS. The only cool people who won anything, Aerosmith, Pearl
Jam and Eric Clapton, weren't there. And it was suspicious, because
Aerosmith, who are from Boston were in Boston. And Pearl Jam, who are based out of
Seattle were "in Seattle." It was like, they were just at home, and
didn't want to come cuz the American Music awards are so lame. WHen Eric
Clapton wasn't there, I was sure they were going to say "eric clapton is in
Englandworking on a project," but they didn't. ANYWAY, point is, I'll be
watching the Golden globes, and X-files will be watched later, and, as i
have a job, I may not be able to watch it until monday, which is a crappy
night for TV anyway, if you ask me.

Talk to you all later, Christine :D

X-Files 6.8 "The Rain King"

Hey everybody! I really enjoyed tonight's episode! Yes, it was
humorous, but in the old, familiar way, and with Mulder and Scully together!
Together! Again, they were TOGETHER during most of the episode. Very
key. director Kim Manners did not disappoint, this episode like all his
others was visually striking. I loved the Wizard of Oz ending, the heart-shaped
hail, and loved those freaky cloud faces.

I've actually met Victoria Jackson: I seated her and her family at a
taping of " Dennis Miller Live" show, when I was a page at CBS. She was
very nice. Loved the use of the song "rainy Days and Mondays", but the
show missed out on bookending their episode with the two most sorrofully
sweet voices in music by using a knock-off instead of the Carpenters (it
was a nice attempt, but that was NOT Karen Carpenter). That hail storm
was cool, and Fox-appropriate, I thought to myself "When Weather Attacks! "
Gillian was just delightful in this episode. She can do so much without
words, and her varying degrees of pain, embarrasment and irritation were
a pleasure to behold. "We usually just say please." scully had reached
her level of tolerance when they stepped off the plane and were greeted by
majorette, but Mulder is having a blast. He just loves the whole danged
thing. He loves it when the rain king starts his dance, but Scully is SO
DIGNIFIED, that other peoples lack thereof actually embarrases her.
Mulder in a soft t-shirt, gets me every time. Say, for those of you who pay too
much attention to things, you know how Chris carter often has the clock
saying "10:13" or "11:21", his birthday, and either his anniversasry or
his wife's birthday, I forget. Anyway, When Scully looks at the clock....IT
WAS MY BIRTHDAY!!!! 3:08. I think it must mean something (humor me here,
people.)

This was the smug scully and enthusiastic Mulder we missed last year
during that horrible role-revearsal that just didn't work. I loved
Scully trying not to laugh at Victoria's story: Scully really did find it
ludicrous, but her compassionate nature won the battle, and she refrained
from chuckling. That long silence as mulder told her he was going to
give dating advice was priceless, as, again, were her looks of discomfort and
amusment at Mulder's romantic quandry. Hate to say it, but it felt very
siblingish.

Any episode that features a disco ball, gets Christine bonus points.
Didn't recognize the third 70's song, after "rock the Boat" by the Hues
Corporation (74) and "The Things we do for Love" by 10cc (77). If anyone
caught it and knows it, I'd appreciate a heads-up. Then, ending with
Judy singing her signature song--this episode had a soundtrack! SO, a second
Wizard of Oz episode? Nice, but let's move on people. i just liked this
episode, it was a pleasure, and next week, we got some conspiracy action,
Skinner, aw yeah, I'm there. Scully's lesson in love was hopeful indeed,
and I think it's propecy: Someday, that switch is going to be flicked,
and Mulder and Scully will be 2-gether 4-ever. Last episode?

I had a great first week at my new job, and am not dreading another
week of it, which strikes me as a positive sign. My beloved 49ers lost
toAtlanta, but they fought a good fight. The playoffs have been pretty
exciting, and I think next weekend will be chok full o' good football and
X-Files, I really think so!

Hope you have good weeks, Christine :D

X-Files 6.7 "Terms of Endearment"

Hey everybody, Happy New Year! Wow, 1999. Listening to the radio on New
Year's eve, and everyone was playing really really great music, because
they knew everyone was partying, and it struck me that they should play
music like that all year round. As i write this, I'm listening to a new
CD by a group called New Radicals, and I'm just obsessed with it. It's
very ELO/Todd Rungren 70's sounding, but in a totally 90's way, check it
out if that sounds interesting to ya!

This episode was not as scary as I had hoped, but it was better than I
thought it would be. Meaning, I thought it was pretty lame about halfway
through, but by the end, I thought the twists were kinds cool. For
instance, when Laura, the good wife, bit the demon in her dream, I knew
we were going to find that bite mark on Bruce Campbell. But they did that
all rather nicely in the end--they expected us to figure out that he was the
bad guy before she did, and then they reveal that yes, duh, he's a
demon--but one who wants a nice normal life!. I don't know how much
sence that makes, but it fooled me, and that's always enjoyable. Bruce
Campbell was the star of the ill-fated "The Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr.",
the first of MANY shows paired with the X-Files on Friday nights. that was
back in 1993 (*Runaway Train by Soul Asylum playing*) when X-Files and
Brisco were both fighting for the honor of being the lowest rated show on
television. Why X-Files was given a chance to become a phenomena while
Brisco was cancelled, we'll never know, but it was nice to see the always
interesting Bruce Campbell here nevertheless.

Nice to see Spender for a minute--but ONLY a minute, hee hee hee.
Loved how Mulder goes through his trash to piece together his shreaded X-Files:
it incapsulates everything noble and pathetic about Mulder. There is now
a notation here in my notes (yes, I take notes!) that is completely
illegible, so just think up something witty and/or insightful and
attribute it to me, if you would be so kind. Loved Scully doing background checks
on potential federal employees, an actual (and important) duty of FBI
agents, but, like protecting us from domestic terrorism, too boring for Mulder so
he sticks Scully with the scut work. He's not good in groups, but Scully
covers, as usual. Scully's reference to the classic horror film
"rosemary's Baby" (which I have not seen myself because I'm a
scaredy-cat) was great, because it harkened back to first season X-Files, when scully
used to reference scary movies all the time ( The exorcist, Carrie,
Poltergeist, etc.). Typically, Mulder bags his assigned duty and sleeps
during his supposed surveilance of the demon while Scully completes her
asigned duty and then, on her OWN TIME, deprives herself of sleep to help
Mulder with his case. Mulder's line to the demon "I know what you are,"
reminded me of....something. I have a memory of Scully saying it to
someone, in similar circumstances, but I can''t be sure of that and I
certainly can't place it. Oh well. So, Mulder believes in demons, but
not angels? OK. And Scully believes in God and the occasional angel, but
not demons? I'd better put C.S. Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters" in their
stockings! Scully's talks with her priest must be interesting, "Look,
even if a god actually exists..." I'm not sure they have any established
continuity for what Scully actually believes. I enjoyed the few minutes,
towards the end? Where they actually worked the case together, ran
through the woods with flashlights and trenchcoats, like the old days, and hope
we see more of them together in the future. It was nice how they had both
the agents and the bad guy doing background checks on people. Loved Scully's
annoyance when Mulder told her to hang on and he did a 180 and sped off
to the other wifes house. She wasn't scared, or shocked, just mildly
annoyed "where are we going Mulder?" love it. The evil wife is a soap vet, One
Life to Live's Grace Phillips. ANyone out there who doesn't believe in
demons is either a liar, or they haven't seen those Welch's grape juice
commercials with that positively unnerving little blond girl who is so
articulate and demanding that she must have been belched from the bowels
of hell. If you know WHO I mean, than you know WHAT i mean. Well, I must
go, i have my first day of work tomorrow at a new job. It is exciting, but
I'm very nervous. I don't like meeting new people, and this feels like the
first day at a new school: what do i wear, will anyone like me? What if
it's too hard, etc. On the upside MY BELOVED SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
DEFEATED THE GREEN BAY PACKERS WITH A STUNNING LAST SECOND STEVE YOUNG PASS TO TERRELL OWENS. Take that you Cheeseheads, and Oh, yeah, it's also 60
degrees out here, hope your pipes don't freeze. To all you good,
non-Packer fans who are in bad weather right now, I really hope your
pipes (nor anything else you value) freeze.

Have a great week :D Christine
