X-Files 6.22 "Biogenesis"

OK, I know its been over a month and you will probably have to re-watch
the episode to understand this review, sorry! Just save this until they
re-run it in September...wait, who am I kidding, NOVEMBER, when next season
starts and read it after you really do re-watch the episode. I could be like
the EXEC's at WB and say I delayed this review in wake of Columbine, but
honestly, I was just wrapped up in work--"Who wants to be a Millionaire",
August on ABC!! Wow, It's not like they paid me to say that--must be
Disney brainwashing...

HOKAY, "X-Files." Liked the finale, I did! I also liked "Star Wars."
Hated "Hannibal." That's a whole 'nother story but if you've read it,
feel free to e-mail me and we'll talk. Scully's monologue at the beginning
about earth and its origins put me in mind of Scully's Post-X-files
teaching career. I suspect she'd be a good teacher, but a tough grader.
It's rare to see nicholas Lea's name in the opening
credits, as I've said before. He's usually a surprise. Don't GET ME
started on the fact that we had NO SCULLYS the whole YEAR!!!! No Mom, no
nothin'. Grrrrr, that reaally ticks me off. Loved the flying artifact,
it was one of the few things that really scared me all year. The idea of
the Bible having "non-Earth" origins actually fits my worldview, if you
stretch things a bit, I'm curious how that grabbed you all ( I know this is a
rather diverse group). Scully never makes much sense when discussing her
beliefs--her religious convictions seem to vary with whoever is writing a
particular episode. Of course i agree she should be skeptical that this
artifact has "The meaning of Life" on it. but if she IS a practicing
catholic this week (and maybe she's not, she's not on her deathbed
anymore) she could at least be open to the idea--maybe the artifact is akin to the
dead sea scrools, etc. Instead, we get scoffing Scully. I always
picture Scully in Mass, rolling her eyes whenever anyone reads Scripture. What's
her deal? Years and years ago, I read an interview with Chris carter in which he
likened Mulder's quest for the truth re: aliens to Carter's quest for
God, the meaning of life, etc. So it interested me that he's diving into that
whole heartedly. I wonder if the other agents view Mulder and Scully as
psuedo celebrities, you know "I was on the elevator with Spooky and
Scully today.." Scary thought: WHat if what Scully was saying was REALLY
IMPORTANT!!! And we'll never know!! Thought it was incredibly lame when
Mulder had to "remind" Scully of his quest to find his sister--like she
doesn't know that by now?? Like WE don't know that by now?? Stupid.

Liked that we got a lot of stuff from previous finales (monkeys in the
lab from season one's Erlenmeyer flask, Albert Hostein from season 2,etc.)
Always love Scully concern for mulder. Chuck, the annoying artifact
expert has been seen at least twice before. In "Calusari", he and Scully had a
debate about the miracle of the Loaves and Fishes, which Scully refers to
as "a parable." Scully must have done a lot of a dozing in CCD. But,
this is the show that in "3" had Mulder quote a chapter of the Bible that
doesn't exist, so...i can't remember the other episode this guy was in,
but I remember saying "It's that guy again", at some point.

OK, If anyone out there knows anything about "magic Squares, let me
know, it ain't in my New American Standard translation. "as the story goes"
God taught Adam how to use a magic square. WHat Story, where? Very dubious,
from a research point of view, I'd like a source on that. Landlords and
Managers are always so creepy on TV. Mine have always been very nice.
Mulder's weird insights were very much like those of little Gibson. I
love how Mulder says "Scully, I'm Hearing VOICES!!" ANd expects that NOT to
sound crazy--only Mulder. Liked that we were seeing Skinner on the
leash--remember, he now owes his life to Krycek, and is therefore less
likely to be on the side of our heroes--hard for me to believe he'd
actually let them be killed or harmed...well, maybe Mulder, but not his
beloved Scully.
Was it just me or was the New mexico hospital hallway shot ...on
VIDEO? I know shooting in LA is a lot more expensive than Vancouver, but
for Pete's sake...

Loved the reaction we got from Gillian when she learns that Albert has
Cancer. just a subtle little facial gesture to indicate that she knows
exactly what this man is going through. Nice. Didn't it seem that
Scully sensed Mulder's collapse despite the continent between them??? they are
bonded by love, I tell you! Now, when Scully chases that guy, does she
HEAR that guy running up the stairs? the close up they did on her ear was so
Bionic Woman--is that the real story behind her being cured from Cancer?
Bionic Scully.

I CAN NOT believe that Krycek didn't kick Mulder was he lay helpless on
the ground--major error, if you ask me. I don't buy it. :)
SOOO, are the aliens that hold the key to everything...good aliens, or
the ones that have been trying to enslave mankind? What's next, Mulder
holding the Bible shouting "It's a cookbook, Scully, A COOKBOOK!!!!" I mean,
I'll admit I have trouble understanding the Book of Revelations, but i ain't
driving out to Area 51 for answers.

WHY does Mulder continue to trust that *&%#@ Diana??? His insight does
not serve him well. just shows that even while under the influence of
omniscient benevolent bible aliens, a man can still be led around by his,
er, nose. Didn't she sell them out...several times? Where's my rifle,
it's time for another sucking chest wound for Dirty Diana.
I liked that Scully's questioning seemed to at least acknowledge a
Creator. That Mulder's theories actually conflict with those RELIGIOUS
beliefs that we are occaisioinally led to believe she has. Don't get the
Aliens have all the answers theory--I mean, so what? Sounds like Mulder
(and Chris) want someone to BLAME everything we don't understand, without
having any kind of Supreme Being that one might have to answer to.
Unless the Bible is just a "trick" concocted by the Bad aliens to...what? I
just don't get where this is leading. Mulder is such a jerk. Maybe Diana is
a succubus or something--what's with her taking her shirt off??? UGH, I
don't even want to think of it...

Was Skinner guilty? Or was he even Skinner? he seemed to not remember
what he said on the phone. Shape shifter? Anyway, he holds her hand,
calls her Dana...maybe it is Skinner. Can't believe the nerve of that
&*#@% "thanking" Scully for coming, "he was asking for you last night."
the Ownership! AS IF! Love the dismissive look Scully barely gives DD.
Love how we see Scully's heart break in two right then and there when she see
Mulder all scared an confused. Love how she's so sure Mulder would never
hurt her, EVER (physically, that is. He stomps all over her feelings on
a fairly regular basis). I love that Scully hates Diana more than I ever
will, hee hee. "You're both Liars." Love it.YEAH. Scully's always
quick to beleive that Skinner's a bad guy--this time, she may be right. Krycek
is really good at shooting people in the head, you gotta give him that.
Loved Scully in Africa. Next year, she'll be insisting the space ship
she found was built by Boeing right?

Next season, I want 1) Scullys. 2)Mulder and Scully on the run and 3)
Mulder and Scully romance. Basically, General Hospital has broken up
Luke and Lura, so i need X-Files to take its place. Seriously, Last Season,
let's have mulder and Scully get it on. And with that profound and
insightful remark, I leave you all to your respective summers. :p Have
a Great Summer!!
