X-Files 5.9 "Schizogeny"

Everyone hated this episode more than I did. i thought it is was
alright...

Hey everybody. Sorry I'm a day late, but I was so very tired last
night, and I couldn't bring myself to get on the computer. I was also
grief-stricken, as my beloved 49ERS fell short in their quest for the
Superbowl. I'm trying to be brave (whimper). Has anyone read the
X-files "news" in the paper? Insiders are saying the move to LA is a done deal
and Fox is saying they will air seasons 6 and 7. This made me nervous
because the cast is only signed through 6, and all I could think of was "Team
X-Files" with Skinner heading a cast of young FBI rogues in the pursuit
of the truth...(shudder).

On to the episode. I mostly enjoyed this one. New writers and a new
( I think) director, I was nervous, but I thought it was nice and creepy
and very different from anything they've done before. Was I the only one
perplexed by the fact that everyone was shot a little weird, like
everyone's face seemed stretched out? Did I imagine that? I loved
Mulder's laughing at Scully's typical attempt at rationalization: I
love that he enjoys her geekiness as much as we do. And I love that neither
of the two is very good at hiding their contempt for stupid people. I'm
sure many of you loved Mulder's little quip about whether or not scully was
turned on by his tree-climbing antics. I doubt it. Scully hops fences
with ease, and the earlier-this-season campfire scene indicated that Dana's
more attracted to him when he's vulnerable. Dana must be strongest,
smartest, best. No one has to KNOW that but her, but She gotta be.
That's my take on it, anyway.

Vickie and Heather, please don't take
this twisted-shrink thing too personally. I myself knew some pretty
messed-up psych majors (the psych major I did room with was very together and
compassionate, provided it was after 10am :) } And, in the end, this
was sort of a pro-therapy episode--had Karen gotten help in managing her
anger, things woulded have gotten so....muddy. I never did understand the
connection between the trees and her rage. Did anyone catch the promos
for the episode, promising a "shoking end?" I said to my dad, "It's the
X-Files! How are they going to shock us, explain everything?" If I
wanted answers I'd be watching "Walker Texas Ranger." Vague is better
than Lame. Was Karen a tree? who really knows. I just know, I liked it.

Rerun next week, so let's all watch the Golden Globes and root for
X-Files (and Titanic). Goodbye, good luck, and when staying over at someone's
house, no matter what you hear, what pull you feel, DON"T GO DOWN IN
THEIR CREEPY CRAWLY MUDDY DEAD DAD-HOLDIN' BASEMENT!!!
Just Go back to sleep.

Christine
